Volunteer Coordinator Sara Waugh Goes the Extra Mile for Patients

Sara Waugh joined the Carolina Caring team nearly 10 years ago as a Volunteer Coordinator and quickly found that the organization’s values and goals were consistent with her own.

“Coming on board with Carolina Caring is the best career move I ever made,” says Sara. “Everybody goes above and beyond and has the same purpose – to help patients and families. The care our team provides is inspiring.”

With the help of Carolina Caring’s Heart Committee, an arm of its Foundation dedicated to providing financial support for patients and families, Sara and her team of volunteers consistently go the extra mile to make sure families have all their needs met beyond traditional patient care – like bringing food or firewood or paying their heating bill.

During these challenging times, Carolina Caring has continued to deliver exceptional care to patients while helping employees navigate self-care during the pandemic.

Carolina Caring’s focus on supporting employees and empowering them to enrich the lives of their patients helped to inspire its ranking as one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare for three years in a row. The organization is currently ranked 5th nationally.
