NEWTON, NC—Sara Waugh has been selected as the recipient of Carolina Caring’s prestigious David B. Clarke Service Before Self Award, an honor given to an employee who exemplifies trust, integrity, and excellence in their work.
The award, presented annually, is named for the nonprofit healthcare organization’s former President, David Clarke. Clarke was instrumental in creating a culture of exceptional care for patients, staff, and the greater community.

Clarke Service Before Self Committee for this honor,” Sara shares. “To be nominated amongst my amazing co-workers and past recipients is humbling; I am grateful to work at Carolina Caring and serve alongside so many others who exemplify the characteristics of this award on a daily basis.”
Clarke hired Waugh over 15 years ago, and she served Carolina Caring under his leadership until his retirement. Waugh has held various roles throughout her career at the organization. Currently, she works with the Volunteer Services team, ensuring that volunteers find purpose in their work as they support patients facing serious illness. She consistently goes above and beyond to create meaningful experiences for patients and their families, and she seeks opportunities behind the scenes to help other colleagues and departments reach their goals.

Waugh received the award during the Carolina Caring Red Carpet Awards Ceremony in May.
