Grief is not linear. It is an emotional response to loss that can take the form of sadness, anxiety, anger, confusion, or even physical symptoms. While there are common elements of grief, every person grieves in their own unique way and at their own pace.

The Center for Grief and Healing at Carolina Caring is here to support you as you navigate loss. Our holistic approach recognizes and addresses the mental health challenges often connected with grief, including anxiety and depression. We provide compassionate grief counseling and support groups throughout Charlotte, NC and western North Carolina

Hospice Bereavement Counseling

We walk alongside families through the grieving process, helping them find comfort, understanding, and hope as they navigate life after the death of their loved one. Our grief counseling services are offered at no cost to families of Carolina Caring hospice patients for up to 13 months following a death.

Our bereavement counselors provide:

  • Individual grief counseling sessions
  • Personalized support tailored to your unique grief journey
  • Guidance through the emotional challenges of loss
  • Resources for coping with anxiety, depression, and other grief-related symptoms
  • Continued support as you adjust to life after loss

The Community Counseling Program will expand in-person and virtual mental health support to anyone in the community who has experienced loss. Whether you’re coping with a major life transition, the impact of a serious illness, or the loss of a job, we will provide a safe space to help you explore your feelings and manage your unique symptoms of grief.

Support groups provide an open, accepting space for individuals to share their experiences with others who navigate similar losses. Our grief support groups offer a compassionate community where you can process your emotions, learn coping strategies, and find connection with others who understand what you’re going through.

All of our support groups are free and open to Carolina Caring clients and those in the community who are experiencing loss.

Brighter Days for Children

Grief Support for Young Hearts

Brighter Days is a special program for children who have experienced the loss of someone significant in their life. Using art, play, and memory-making activities, Brighter Days provides a safe, nurturing space where children can explore their feelings in ways that feel natural to them. Children ages 5-16 who have experienced the death of someone important can participate in this supportive program, designed specifically to address the unique ways children process grief.

FAQs About Our Grief Counseling and Support Groups

Carolina Caring provides comprehensive grief support including one-on-one grief counseling, grief support groups throughout Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas, grief workshops, educational resources, and specialized programs like Brighter Days for children. Our services address all aspects of the grieving process, from immediate bereavement support to long-term healing.

Yes, our grief support groups and grief workshops are open to both Carolina Caring clients and community members who have experienced loss. You don’t need to have been a hospice patient or family member to participate in our grief support groups.

For families of Carolina Caring hospice patients, grief counseling services are available for 13 months following the loss. This extended support period recognizes that grief doesn’t follow a timeline and that different challenges may arise at different points in the bereavement process.

Brighter Days is designed for children ages 5 to 16 who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives. This may include the loss of a parent, grandparent, sibling, friend, or other important person.

Grief counseling typically involves one-on-one sessions with a trained bereavement counselor who provides personalized support tailored to your specific situation. Grief support groups bring together people who have experienced similar losses to share their experiences and support one another in a facilitated group setting. Many people find that a combination of both individual counseling and group support provides the most comprehensive healing experience.

Upcoming Events

All grief support groups are free and open to Carolina Caring clients as well as those in the community who have experienced loss.

At this time, most support groups require registration. Instructions for participating in virtual meetings will be provided.

Good Mourning Coffee Group

Grab a cup of coffee, enjoy light breakfast, and join us for an informal time of sharing and connecting with others who are also on a journey of healing. No registration is needed.

Loss of Spouse Group

Losing a spouse is one of life’s most profound losses. This support group is designed for anyone who has lost a spouse or a companion.  Individuals will have an opportunity to share memories of their loved ones, learn more about the grief process, participate in hands on activities, and gain helpful coping skills. 

Space is limited and registration is required.  Choose the location most convenient to you:
