Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Carolina Caring?

Offering compassionate care for those with serious illnesses for more than 40 years, we offer local hospice and palliative services to bring caregivers greater peace of mind. Flexible, patient-centered care is provided by an expert health care team led by doctors who are focused on providing the best care for your unique situation. The team also includes specially-trained nurses, nursing assistants, social workers and spiritual counselors who provide physical, emotional and spiritual support to enhance the lives of our patients and their families.

If you are receiving palliative medicine services you may receive care from Nurse Practitioners Jacqueline Brown, FNP-C and Robin Sherrill, FNP-C. If you are a hospice patient, a health care team will be assigned to assist you and your loved ones.

Offering services in a patient’s home may decrease the need for hospitalizations, emergency room visits, or traveling to doctor appointments for care or treatment. We also offer services in assisted living communities and long-term care centers, while working alongside their facility staff to ensure symptoms are managed and holistic care is provided to patients and families.

Medicare, Medicaid and many private insurers cover the cost of hospice and palliative care. Hospice patients often use their Medicare Hospice Benefit to cover the cost of care for a terminal illness and related conditions. This benefit also covers most medical equipment including walkers, wheelchairs, hospital beds, oxygen and more.

You may be eligible for palliative care or hospice care once a doctor diagnoses you with a serious illness like heart failure, dementia, diseases of the lungs and more. You may be eligible for our services if you experience: frequent hospitalizations, frequent infections, steady decline over several months/years or poor quality of life due to illness.

Many people tend to assume that patients “go to hospice” for care. But our services come to you — wherever you may live. The different settings where you can receive care: include at home, assisted living center, long-term care communities and hospitals.
